for National Tell a Story Day today, April 27 — Everyone has a story, or a story to tell — Homer Laughlin with members of the Congressional Irrigation Committee and guests. ( Los Angeles Herald , June 13, 1905) While living in California, Homer was active, and held prominent positions in several organizations, and became widely known for his civic enterprise and patriotic enthusiasm. Homer and Cornelia Laughlin traveled a great deal. On a trip to Los Angeles, CA, Homer realized the potential for growth and development of the city, and by 1894 he had purchased property in downtown Los Angeles. In 1897, Homer sold his East Liverpool property and pottery interests, and moved his family to Los Angeles. Homer purchased 35 acres near Hollywood Blvd. and Highland Ave., and spent more than $100,000 in improving the tract, later known as Laughlin Park, by planting thousands of shrubs and trees. 137 years ago today,   April 13, 1886 -   Chelsea   design patent, Homer Laughlin and Elljah Chetwynd. In 1886, Homer Laughlin announced his newest shape "Chelsea" -- in competition with the fine translucent porcelain china coming out of England at Chelsea. • January 17, 1886, Crockery and Glass Journal : “Mr. Laughlin’s new shape is at last finished, and the mold makers are now hard at work getting ready a good supply of molds for each piece. Mr. Laughlin has named it ‘Chelsea’.” • February 28, 1886, Crockery and Glass Journal : "Mr. Laughlin will make a full line of think dinner and tea services in his new ‘Chelsea’ shape, as well as medium thick hotel china." • March 4, 1886,  Crockery and Glass Journal: “Homer Laughlin is getting along nicely in the working up of his Laughlin china clay. … The fact that Mr. Laughlin will make thin china has occasioned some excitement in ceramic circles, and quite a number of manufacturing potters have expressed a wish that he m...

  137 years ago today, April 8, 1886 — “Mr. Laughlin has gotten through several pretty new filled-in decorations for his 'Shakespeare' dinnerware line in white granite which are of the nature of little vine-like twigs, with very elegant flowers, all painted in subdued colors -- nothing gaudy or loud -- all neat, artistic and quiet. We did not think to inquire what they call these new decorations, but they have them now in stock in the glost warehouse in considerable quantities.   Did you know... 88 years ago this month,  April, 1935  — the art deparment was designing and modeling the vintage Fiesta ® 5 1/2" fruit bowls, which were included in the successful 1936 introduction of Fiesta ® . The smaller 4 3/4" Fiesta ® fruit bowl was produced about 2 years later. Welcome to the  Fiesta®   Tableware Company Collectors Organization The Fiesta Tableware Company Collectors Organization is an all-volunteer, 501c(3), non-profit. It was formed with the interest and support of The Fiesta Tableware Company (FTC) to educate and network with individuals about one of the last remaining American-made dinnerware companies left in the United States. The FTCCO Board of Directors are experienced collectors with knowledge of all Homer Laughlin lines, dating back to the early 1870s, to the present day lines like Fiesta dinnerware. The Organization is perfect for the novice to even the most seasoned collector.
